Stedin is looking for 2FTE Senior Python Developer. (FREELANCE NOT ALLOWED) Max hourly rate is 80,- ex VAT.
Make an impact with your code.
Flexible working and the possibility to work partly from home — that’s what you can expect as a Senior Python Developer at Stedin. In this role, you combine technically challenging work with social impact. You also play an active role in coaching, guiding, and developing other developers within your team.
The energy transition places high demands on our electricity grid. As a Senior Python Developer, you’ll work on the further development of Stedin’s Flex Toolkit — an innovative tool that optimizes grid capacity by enabling accurate capacity calculations and flexible contract models. This increases visibility, improves decision-making, and helps prevent congestion in the grid.
You’ll collaborate with multiple teams, gather user feedback through workshops, and contribute to an Agile working environment. You’ll also ensure seamless integration of the Flex Toolkit with systems such as PowerFactory, Setiam, and SAP.
A day in the life of a Senior Python Developer
After a good cup of coffee (or tea) — ordered in sign language from our hearing-impaired barista — you start your day with the daily stand-up. Together with your colleagues, you discuss priorities and obstacles, and then everyone gets to work.
At the start of each sprint, you review goals with the DevOps team and Product Owner. You support your teammates and vice versa, ensuring that the product delivers maximum value. One day you’re refining the backlog, the next you’re fully focused on your development tasks. During planning, you assess whether workloads are realistic or need to be adjusted.
Late in the morning, you join a few introductory meetings — essential to understand the business context of the application and further develop your knowledge. Afterwards, you coordinate integrations and user stories with other DevOps teams in short online sessions. You may end the morning by working with a colleague on a low-level design for a new congestion solution.
Time for lunch! You can enjoy a meal on the 18th floor with a magnificent view of Rotterdam — either your own lunch or something fresh from the company restaurant — or take a walk through the city.
In the afternoon, it’s time for a refinement session: together you define the steps needed to deliver user stories for the upcoming quarter.
You wrap up your day by checking in with the Epic Owner to discuss the next steps in product development. Before heading home, you review the ticket system to see if there are any requests you can pick up. And with Blaak Station just a few steps away, your commute home couldn’t be easier!
Your strengths
You’re an enthusiastic and inspiring colleague who thrives on developing new products in a fast-changing, technically challenging environment. With your coaching and motivational approach, you stimulate the growth of your fellow developers, helping them realize their full potential. You actively contribute to a learning-oriented, supportive, and collaborative work culture.
You look beyond your daily tasks — taking initiative, spotting opportunities, and translating them into valuable features and improvements that contribute to Stedin’s business goals. Thanks to your strong communication skills, you work effectively within your team and foster a culture of continuous improvement — for yourself, your colleagues, and our customers.
What makes you our next Senior Python Developer?
- A higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking, preferably with a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience with strong proficiency in Python, especially in GUI and tool development.
- Proven practical experience with SQL, Git, Azure Cloud, Databricks, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js, or Angular) is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights.
- Experience with Agile or SAFe methodologies is an advantage.
We welcome candidates who are not yet fluent in Dutch but are willing to learn. A key requirement is that you are able to travel to our Rotterdam office at least 50% of the time.
A great team – that’s where you belong
From day one, you’ll be part of the Agile Release Train (ART) Forecasting & Capacity Management. The team currently consists of a Product Owner, Scrum Master, Business Analyst, and three Developers. The team enjoys a high level of autonomy within clear architectural frameworks, collaborating closely with other teams involved in the end-to-end maintenance process. What connects us? The shared drive to solve complex challenges and create the best possible solutions together. To foster transparency and collaboration, we organize Big Room Planning sessions every quarter — two full, dynamic days where colleagues from IT and the business come together to define the development roadmap for the next quarter. It’s a highlight of our Agile way of working.
